Bedford, as a whole, has a wealth of wonderful places to visit and discover. You can spend time gliding down the tranquil River Great Ouse, discover The Higgins Museum or the number of different historic sites that lie within the town. You can also watch a show at either the Corn Exchange or the newly renovated Quarry Theatre at St Luke’s!

The cultural diversity of Bedford means there are hundreds of different places to eat that offer foods and delicacies from all over the world.  You can have amazing curries, delicious Italian coffees, Polish pastries or traditional afternoon tea. All of the town’s family-friendly spaces are within a stone throw of each other too!

History – where did the Bedford journey really begin? Originally, Bedford was a small market town for the surrounding agricultural region from the early middle ages. Bedford manufactured a number of different things, with wool being an important industry in the area for much of this particular period. The new Bedford Castle was rebuilt in the year 1224 and all that remains now is the castle mound where it once stood.

Things to do – There are fantastic places to see and do all within the town centre. On Bedford High Street you will find a collection of top rated cafes and restaurants where you can taste the popular cuisine and drink the freshly brewed beer from our local brewers. In addition, Bedford is renowned for its busy nightlife and the selection of bars and nightclubs means that you can enjoy the town until the early hours!

Bedford is a vibrant area to live in with all kinds of different leisure opportunities for residents and visitors to choose from. Not only does Bedford offer a vast amount of different opportunities, as mentioned previously, it is also diverse with the different cultures and people who live within the town. With that being said, there are fantastic programmes of cultural events throughout the year such as the Bedford River Festival and Kite Festival.

Transport Links – Bedford also has excellent transport links, with the Train station only being a 15 minute walk from the town centre.  There you can take a 15 minute train journey to Luton Airport or a fast train to London which will take 34 minutes!

Bedford from the outside – Some may say the town looks small, however, Bedford offers a variety of destinations for all and of course the gorgeous embankment that runs throughout.  It’s difficult to describe to an outsider what life is really like here but if you haven’t visited Bedford before – then make sure you plan to because you won’t be disappointed!
